Indian food as it exists in Australia in food courts and restaurants is generally nothing like the food we (Indians) cook and eat at home. A few years ago, people’s perceptions about Indian food made me realise they weren’t aware of what Indian food actually is. This motivated me to share my food culture and journey with others.

Kristen M.
Manly Vale

Private Design & Make Wooden Furniture Lesson – $60/hr
Hey! Kristen here. I am a furniture designer maker under the alias SneakyB.

I am a trade qualified joiner that loves to make furniture out or recycled/ reclaimed materials. The material I work with is mainly timber but I have made pieces out of metals, concrete and dabble in upholstery as well. The beauty of working with reclaimed materials is that you never know what the piece is going to look like until you are finished, and once completed you have a completely unique product that can never be reproduced.

Leanne Berelowitz
Rose Bay

Private On Request Pottery Lesson – $60/hr
My ceramics education began in Jerusalem where I studied a Bachelor of Fine Art at the Bezalel Academy, and later completed a Master of Cross-disciplinary art and design at UNSW Art and Design in Sydney. I work with a range of clays, from fine white porcelain to rough dark terracotta, making sculptural vessels inspired by natural and built environments. My pieces are either handbuilt using ribbons of clay, or wheelthrown and hand-altered, with surfaces usually exposing the raw clay or glazed in metallics.

Marion Stehouwer
Bundeena

Group Pottery Classes – $28.30/hr
I’ve been running Something at Mary’s Pottery studio for more than a decade and have taught pottery to thousands of students over that time. I’ve been featured on several television shows and am a member of the acclaimed Bundeena Maianbar Art Trail.

Having studied art therapy my philosophy on teaching pottery is that it should be fun and easy. You can expect humour and laughter at one of my classes. You can also expect a simple step by step approach to learning pottery skills.

Michael Shafran

I’m the owner of Brooklyn Boy Bagels, Sydney’s (and probably Australia’s) first true artisan New York bagel bakery. I’m a Brooklyn native who arrived in Australia in 2001. Soon after, I began working as a food journalist, and while travelling across the country, I kept searching for real bagels. Eventually, I realised they didn’t exist – what we had here were fluffy “rolls with a hole” – so I decided to make them myself, learning the time-worn traditional methods from my hometown over a dozen years.
